I am driven by pace and variety. Business as usual does not motivate me—I enjoy the intellectual challenge of working with different companies, teams, and projects in various stages of their business lifecycle. As a Portfolio Executive, I am able to apply my skills across a wide range of situations.
A second redundancy gave me the opportunity to reflect on whether I wanted my next chapter to look similar to the last. After a few decades of experience, I had the confidence to try and shape the next phase on my own terms.
An early turning point came from an unsuccessful engagement with a boutique investment bank, which unexpectedly led to my working directly with one of their potential clients. In a very short space of time, the client and I discovered a strong working synergy.
Along the way, I’ve learned the value of resilience, relationship building, helping others where I can, expansive networking, and maintaining a relentless intellectual curiosity—these are the things that keep me going and growing.
This work and lifestyle suit me now because I’ve built the foundations to implement my expertise with both the intensity and flexibility required to make a meaningful impact.
Looking ahead, I hope more companies come to realise the value Portfolio Executives bring and how we can leverage our expertise to build cost-effective capability and long-term sustainability in their businesses.
