To be honest, my motivation to become a Portfolio was simple: to spend more time with my family and help reduce overall stress in the workforce. Alongside my finance career, I have been a meditation instructor for more than 15 years, and I use those skills to help create clarity and identify the metrics that truly matter.
Over the years, I have implemented programmes across industries that create clarity for employees and understanding within organisations, often leading to positive financial impact. After my last CFO role, I realised these skills are not always required in a traditional CFO position, even though finance has a critical role to play in driving culture and clarity. The CFO can no longer simply report on the numbers; they need to focus on overall organisational health, as every part of the business benefits from thoughtful, strategic financial guidance. The challenge is that more and more responsibility is being placed on the CFO’s shoulders. They need a partner, someone who can also see the financial impact of every decision. That is where we come in, providing complementary CFO services that help move organisations forward through projects, technology, and strategic initiatives.
My measure of success has always been clients who choose to re-engage. As a former CFO, I never wanted organisations to become dependent on consultants or feel as though an outsider understood their business better than they did. However, there is tremendous value in having a trusted partner who evolves alongside the business, understands its goals, and can execute strategies when internal capacity is stretched. True partnership is an investment, and I’m proud to say we have built those kinds of relationships with our clients. Their continued trust in our services and the value we bring validates our mission every day.
Along the way, I’ve learned that communication is everything. Decision-makers are often much closer to change than they realise, but sometimes they need someone to take the reins and drive the project forward. They need someone they trust, who listens, understands their vision, and helps turn it into reality.
It’s working for me now because I genuinely enjoy learning, helping my community, and seeing organisations change from within. I enjoy the variety, and I like knowing that every day is a little different. That combination continues to challenge and excite me.
Looking ahead, I would like to see the programmes we develop adopted more widely by organisations around the world. Creating clarity, stability, and healthier workplace practices reduces stress and allows people to be more present in both their jobs and their everyday lives. Reducing stress leads to better health, stronger organisations, and stronger communities, both inside and outside of work.
