I have been working as a fractional IT leader for the past five years, a role I find both challenging and immensely rewarding. Witnessing the exceptional work being done at Portfolio Executives, I was inspired to get involved and leverage their proven framework to enhance my impact.
My journey began nearly five years ago when I transitioned into fractional IT leadership. Before that, I spent 16 years as an officer in the British Army, followed by seven years in various permanent roles. My last full-time position was as an IT Director, leading a team of 130 IT professionals. While this work was fulfilling, I craved a change. This desire led me to establish One IT Consulting, opening a new chapter in my professional life.
Starting One IT Consulting in March 2020, just before the Covid-19 pandemic, was a significant challenge. My first contract ended prematurely due to the crisis, which was a shock and a disappointment. However, I quickly adapted and secured a full-time interim role as CIO for an insurance company, turning this setback into an opportunity for growth and success.
Throughout my career, I’ve embraced the mindset that “every day is a school day.” No matter how much experience I’ve gained over 27 years as an IT leader, there is always more to learn. I am passionate about staying ahead by innovating with new technologies and providing clients with the latest best practices in governance, security, technology, and ways of working.
The role of a fractional IT leader fits me perfectly. I thrive on working with multiple clients simultaneously, enjoying the variation and rewards that come with it. This approach also allows me to maintain a flexible schedule, balancing work commitments with personal time—a freedom I greatly value.
Looking to the future, my ambition is to continue helping organizations maximize the value of their IT investments. My aim is to deliver services that are not only effective and efficient but also provide the best possible return on investment for every client I work with.
