After years in senior finance roles, I saw how many growing businesses struggled not because of a lack of ambition, but because they lacked clear, timely financial insight at the moments that mattered most. I was motivated by the opportunity to work closely with founders and leadership teams, bringing senior-level financial thinking into businesses that needed it, without the overhead or rigidity of a full-time hire. A portfolio approach allows me to focus my experience where it creates the greatest impact, helping leaders make better decisions, prepare for growth or investment, and build stronger, more resilient businesses.

Mettryx was founded in 2021 during an exit from my employer of the time – under a belief that we could provide financial leadership and advice to SMEs and make significant differences to their success rates.

My first real success came from helping a growing, owner-led business regain confidence in its numbers at a critical point. The business was showing headline growth, but the underlying reporting lacked clarity around cash and margins. By rebuilding the core financial reports, tightening cash controls, and translating the numbers into practical decisions for the leadership team, we were able to stabilise performance and create a platform for growth. The outcome was not just better reporting, but a leadership team that trusted its financial insight and could move forward with confidence.

So much has stood out along the way. Above all, I’ve learned that owners and leaders of SMEs are required to wear several hats at once, often switching between strategy, operations, sales, and finance in the same day. The most effective support is not about adding complexity or imposing frameworks, but about meeting leaders where they are, providing clarity at the right moments, and helping them focus their time and energy on the decisions that truly move the business forward.

It’s working because the portfolio model aligns experience with impact. I can bring senior financial judgement, experience, and perspective built over many years into businesses at the points they most need it. At the same time, the variety keeps me interested, excited, and commercially focused, which ultimately benefits the leaders I work with. It’s a model that creates mutual value, allowing businesses to access the right level of support, and allowing me to do my best work.

Looking ahead, I hope to continue growing the Mettryx practice in a way that deepens its impact. That means working with more ambitious leadership teams, developing a clear and repeatable approach to financial insight and decision support, and building a trusted advisory platform that helps businesses grow with confidence, resilience, and clarity over the long term.
