The Portfolio Executives

  • Specialism: Fractional COO for scale-up tech businesses
  • Track Record: F-14 pilot in the US Navy for 10 years, 13 years in corporate roles (Strategy/Innovation, Finance, Marketing, Operations), 8 start-ups (all roles), lived and worked in US, Spain and the UK.
  • Offer: I tend to work with company founders to help them make the best business and investment decisions to scale the business to the next level. I love businesses that have a proven idea and need to figure out how to scale it. Also, I am glad to roll up my sleeves from time to time to get things done if that is what is needed.
  • Rob says: "I bring a combination of knowing how to do things in big firms with real life experience making things happen at small firms."

My motivation to become a Portfolio Executive has been driven by my ambition to take my current portfolio to the next level. More advisor and less contractor!

I have had my own company for 20 years as people often asked me to drop in and ‘fix something’. I love to design and build new solutions to business problems. I left an interesting corporate role at RBS to go fully to a portfolio lifestyle in 2017 and have not looked back.

My first success was in an executive role as COO at a home financing start-up in 2019. Along the way I have probably forgotten more than most young entrepreneurs know about scaling a business. For me, I need to focus on what I am good at and stay away from things that I do just to learn.

I now have 3 contracts ongoing, each a few days a week. I have managed to negotiate a balanced mix of cash and shares that fits my current financial risk appetite.

As I continue with the Portfolio lifestyle, I want more stability from a larger pool of clients and to move my business from doing to advising.
