I enjoy working closely with business owners and senior leaders on the things that materially affect how a business performs. Fractional work gives me the opportunity to bring an outside perspective and practical support, without a business necessarily needing another full-time senior hire.
My background has always sat somewhere between commercial growth and operations. I’ve built and managed sales activity, improved systems and ways of working, and helped businesses connect what they are trying to win with how they actually deliver it. Over time, that naturally developed into working independently with businesses that needed that combination of thinking and practical involvement.
One of my clearest early successes was helping grow a business from around £149k to £1.1m in revenue, while also being involved in developing the operation to support that growth. More recently, my work with Entrepreneurs Hub has combined commercial improvement with operational changes that have increased suitable opportunities while removing significant delivery time and cost.
Along the way, I’ve learned that the most visible problem isn’t always the thing that needs fixing. More leads, another system, more automation or another person may be the answer, but they aren’t good starting assumptions. I’ve learned to understand the result first, look at what is actually shaping it, and then decide what response is worth putting in place.
It’s working for me now because I’m able to work across commercial and operational issues rather than being limited to one narrow discipline. I can help an owner think through a decision, challenge assumptions, design a practical response and, where useful, help implement it. That combination works particularly well for smaller businesses that need experienced support but not necessarily another permanent executive.
Looking ahead, I want to build a small number of strong, long-term relationships where I can become a trusted commercial and operational sounding board for the owner or leadership team, while also taking a practical role when something needs to be designed, improved or implemented.
